The Ombre Cake

Happy 3rd Birthday Kinsey!

Ruffles & a crown for a little Princess!

That's right...it's even ombre on the inside!

A true artist makes it look easy.

I started with white cake.  You would think just adding pink a bit to each layer would work.  No
Those little droppers are not very consistent.  It really took a great deal of mixing & blending.

Then, each ruffle is hand rolled & frilled before being placed on the cake.
All I had to do is add more white to each layer of ruffle.  Much easier!

The results were well worth the effort!

Cake Central Magazine

I'm Published!

One day, completely out of the blue, I received an email from the publishers of Cake Central Magazine.  I couldn't believe it!  They were truly interested in my work!  I honestly, truly jumped up & down.  Then, I realized the deadline.  Who makes a deadline in the middle of wedding season?!!  I really didn't think I would have the time to do it, but was truly honored they asked.

As time grew shorter, the opportunity kept calling my name.  How could I pass on something so big?  The answer was that I couldn't.  I set to work.

The inspiration for the issue was the color blue, the color purple, & frames.

Thankfully, my neighbor, Brandy Seyller, is very talented in photography.

She helped me capture a few wonderful shots to submit to the magazine.

It really wasn't my best work.  I never imagined I would be among those chosen.  I swallowed hard, held my chin high, & chalked it up as a great experience.  Much to my surprise, they chose one of my photos!  I hope they award me another opportunity.
I would say I hope it is when I am not so busy....but I always wish for business!

Congratulations Brittany Dabrasky & Jordan Weathers

Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Weathers!

Brittany & Jordan chose some of my favorite flavor combinations:  Lemon with Raspberry, Red Velvet with Cream Cheese, & White Cake with White Chocolate Mousse & Fresh Strawberries.

The cake is frosted with buttercream & decorated with pearls & brush embroidery inspired by the dress.

I just happen to be in the hall right after Brittany & Jordan were announced Husband & Wife.  Jordan was so elated.  I feel lucky to have not only been a part of that moment but to also have had a camera!

Beautiful Couple!

Jordan's mother, Susan Weathers, also contracted me for the Groom's Cake.

The Marble Cake was inspired by Jordan's reputation for wearing bow ties.

Susan Weathers was kind enough to send me a photo.
Those not wearing bow ties, tied their ties in mock bows!

She also sent me a photo of a wonderful moment shared by Husband & Wife.

Congratulations Adriane Miler & Sean Harrington!

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Harrington!

The bottom tier of this cake is Devils Food with White Chocolate Mousse & Fresh Strawberries.
The remaining tiers alternate flavors of Lemon with Chocolate Ganache & Red Velvet with Cream Cheese.

The cake is frosted with Buttercream & decorated with Swiss Dots.
The silver bands are made of fondant & dusted with luster dust.

The gumpaste peony is hand made & hand painted with silver luster dust.

This was The First wedding cake for Delicious Desserts!!

Bud Light

Bud Light!

This was my very first ever "paid" groom's cake.  The bride requested a case of Bud Light.

I must admit that we don't drink Bud Light, & I really had no idea what the case looked like.  So, I went to Publix & purchased a case.  I needed it not only for reference of the look but also for dimensions!

So, how do you make a case of Bud Light?

This is 2 layers of Chocolate cake.  I have crumb coated them & added dowels for support.

I then added the additional two layers of chocolate cake.
(special note to decorators...next time, I will put the supports closer to the end to prevent sagging)

I double checked the dimensions to ensure accuracy!

Then, I covered the cake with fondant & began the decorating.

I cut out the letters & logo & began hand painting the details.
It's hard to see, but I even used Silver Luster Dust for the shading of the letters.

I repeated the same steps for the top.

As I was completing the top of this cake, delivery drivers arrived with the NEW refrigerator!!  I was so happy & excited to see them.  I had been anxiously awaiting their arrival.  The cake was on the table next to various paint brushes, food coloring, etc.  It never, even for a second, occurred to me that it could be damaged.  I gestured toward the cake as I said, "You are just in time!  I can put the cake in my new fridge!" I kind of thought I was making it clear that this was a cake.  Apparently not.

Instead of handing the paperwork to me personally, the driver PUT THEM ON TOP OF THE CAKE!!! Are you kidding me?!!  I did not scream.  I remember hearing myself suck in breath.  I did say, through clenched teeth, for nobody to move.  Now, I can take it as a compliment.  They didn't notice it was Cake!  They though it was real!

Both the Bride & Groom arrived to pick up the cake.  What was I gonna do with a case of Bud Light?
I gave it to them, of course!
The only thing better than a case of beer Cake is a case of beer to go with it!

Happy 1st Birthday Jacob!

My Baby is 1!

Baby Jacob's birthday is March 2nd.  He LOVES cake!  He was not interested in blowing out any silly candles.  He couldn't wait to get his hands in some cake!

As many of you know, Jacob shares his birthday with Dr. Seuss.  I thought that was a wonderful theme for his first birthday cake!

The 3 tier cake is frosted with buttercream & decorated with hand made Dr. Seuss figurines.  The bottom layer is Marble Cake with Chocolate Ganache, the middle tier is Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Baileys Ganache, & the top tier is Pound Cake with White Chocolate Mousse & fresh blueberries.  Jacob's smash cake is white cake with his favorite yogurt & fresh blueberries.

Yes, the figurines took a good bit of time to make.  I think they were worth every minute!

Of course, no Dr. Seuss cake is complete without the Cat in the Hat!

Thank you to all of our friends & family!  We had a wonderful day!

Almost anything can be fixed!

First let me say that I know that this client will not at all mind that I share her story with you.  This cake was designed for a Christening.  All seemed to go very well.  I delivered & set the cake in place and went about the rest of my day.  Then the client called.

She explained that there had been a small accident.  She had left the room, only for a moment.  With it, she left her 3 boxers!  When she returned, she discovered one of the dogs had licked the cake.  No problem.  I can repair a small lick.

My husband had just left, & I had the baby all to myself.  Expecting a small repair, I told her to bring it on over.  Imagine my horror & surprise when I saw the damage!  I remained calm, took a deep breath, & set to work.  Thank you Joe Scruggs!  His DVD managed to distract the baby long enough for me to repair the parts that required 2 hands.
Not quite as perfect, but I don't think many people would notice a difference.

Yes, the client did inform her guests of the tale.  She also cut pieces from the undamaged area of the cake.

Luckily, almost anything can be fixed!
